Organization and Google - Ostrander and Martin

This year in U.S. History, we are attempting to go as paperless as possible.  At first, this had presented many challenges. Some of the challenges were: How do we set this up? The actual grading of the assignments.  How will the students share back their work?  However, these challenges were tackled by trial and error.  Our biggest obstacle was collecting work digitally (submitting online).  Working with the Sandburg TIF’s, we created folders in Google Drive.  Each folder represented each period.  Within each periods folder, was another folder for each assignment we have given.  This allowed us to easily monitor the student's work being turned in.
Students had some minor difficulties remembering how to share correctly.  However, after a few assignments students are now easily submitting their work in the correct place.  Now that students know how to submit, we are finding out that having all of their work online makes our life a bit easier.  For example, there are no more issues with finding students work or wondering when it was submitted.  It is also nice to be able to grade collaboratively on the same doc and at any time we can access their work.

Where do we want to go from here?  We have expressed interest in having our students do more testing and projects digitally.  Our class uses Canvas, but we would like to explore more digital assessments.
